Greek Raw Honey – Cretan Oak and Chestnut Honey
Crete is blessed with the most beautiful countryside, a mix of valleys, untouched mountains and high altitude forests full of oak and chestnut trees that harmoniously coexist in the Cretan ecosystem and produce exceptional raw honey, rich in aroma, health benefits and full of natural flavour.
At the local Meligyris apiary harvest of this pure, unfiltered, cold-pressed raw honey takes place in early Mediterranean summer. It's the Cretan wild flora and mountainous terrain together with the high altitude, the sea breeze and the warm, but dry climate, that give a strong flavour and dark colour to this incredible and intense oak and chestnut honey. It's a true honey connoisseur delight - bitter, nutty and tannic!
It's very rich in pollen, antioxidants, minerals and with unique organoleptic and antiseptic properties, and also remains in a liquid form for a long time. A true superfood and an alternative to manuka honey.
It pairs well with matured cheeses (gorgonzola, pecorino), ham, prosciutto and pork. Perfect for meat sauces, glazes and marinades. Oak and chestnut honey is, also, a perfect combination to yoghurt, bread, hot drinks and can be used in baking too.
